Foods from around the world...

One of my favorite things about traveling is food: trying new dishes, learning new recipes and getting a different perspective about my own food choices.
Here's a link my good friend, Aatri, sent me that shows a weeks worth of food (and costs) from many different families from all over the world.

I look forward to tasting the specialties in Hong Kong tomorrow. I'll be sure to take some pics!

While this may be neither here nor there, this photo series actually first appeared in Walrus, the Canadian current affairs and politics magazine.

Some things are unexpected. Who knew, for example, that Kuwaitis actually beat Americans in obesity rates?

The other thing that struck me was the variability in the amount ofprocessing and packaging. The poorest people with the thinnest diets also eat almost only whole foods, and no packaging (for instance, the Quechua family). Constrast with the Japanese -- each individual item neatly packaged, lots of processing.
